July is also the month for the 24 Hour Zine Thing challenge — pick a day and devote a full 24 hours to making 1 issue of a zine. If you live in Richmond, you can join your comrades on July 8; the IPRC in Portland is hosting its challenge on July 16.

First of all, Márcio Sno lives in Brazil and has completed part 1 of his documentary “Last Century Zinesters,” which came out earlier this year. If you have ever wondered what it would be like to make zines in Brazil, this documentary will give you a taste of the zine scene there.

Also, if you are into zine readings, zine librarians, or mobile zines, you should check out the Orderly Disorder: Zinester Librarians in Circulation tour, coming to a town near you. It kicks off this Sunday in New Orleans! Here are the upcoming dates:

Registration for the 2011 Twin Cities Zinefest has opened. It will be taking place in Minneapolis on Saturday, September 24.

Also, the Portland Zine Symposium has opened registration. It will take place on August 6-7 at Refuge on 116 se yamhill in Portland. Please consider helping to support the symposium by participating in the postcard project or by donating money to the ChipIn site! All the info about that is here.

Also, the first annual Midwest Zine Festival is taking place April 30-May 1st in Urbana, IL. They are looking for people to present workshops and discussions on various topics, including but not limited to: homebrewing, the politics of language, zine librarianship, binding, kids make zines, etc. Check out their website to suggest a workshop topic, register for a table, or find out more information.

The Wellington Zine Fest will be held 12-5pm, November 20 at Mighty Mighty, 104 Cuba Mall in Wellington, New Zealand.

Handmade & Bound is an independent fair including handmade artists’ books and zines, held at the St. Aloysius Social Club in London, UK, on November 21.

The Alternative Press Fair will be held on November 28 at St. Aloysius Social Club in London, UK. Comix, zines, self-published art books, poetry workshop, and more will be on hand.

Miss the Zinesters Guide to NYC release party? Then mark your calendar for the ZG2NYC Zine-vasion, a zine-centric event featuring Ayun Halliday and other contributors to the guidebook: 7-9 p.m. November 30 at St. Mark’s Bookshop, 31 3rd Ave., New York City.

If you are in Portland, come out to the Mississippi Pizza Pub on Saturday, August 7th for a Zinester’s Spelling Bee! The event is a fundraiser for the upcoming Portland Zine Symposium, and there will be opportunities to donate at the door as well as by purchasing raffle tickets for prizes. Also, for all of you who are not in Portland, perhaps you’d like to contribute to a group zine project called Even My Mum Can Make A Book. Submit your zines and collages, along with a short biography, full contact details, date of birth and nationality, to Manzara Perspectives, Tatar Beyi Sokak 27 Kuledibi, Beyo?lu/Istanbul Turkey by August 31 to be included in the exhibition that will begin in Istanbul on September 15.
