We’re working hard on our next issue, with plans to release it early in the new year. As always, we need your help. Please send in:
- free classified ads, 50 word limit, for any DIY or out-of-the-mainstream project. Usual categories: zines, books, distros, calls for submissions, writers/artists/publishers wanted, groups & projects, online/websites, personals, stuff for sale/rent/swap, services rendered. Send to jerianne at undergroundpress.org.
- display ads. Say what you want to say, how you want to say it. Your ad will be seen by hundreds of zine readers, publishers, and fans. Several sizes available, with rates as low as $15. We’ll also consider ad trades. Buying an ad supports our publishing efforts. Check our our ad rates or email ads at undergroundpress.org for info.
- word of mouth. Share what you know with other zinesters. We need:
- recommendations on distros and stores
- address changes
- upcoming events
- feedback about zine events you attended in 2008
- deadbeat zines & news about zines
- zine review zine & website listings (new ones, discontinued ones, or updates)
- zine library & infoshop listings (new ones, discontinued ones, or updates)
- postage, mailing, shipping tips
- copying, DIY printing, equipment tips
- other zine friendly resources
Please send to wordofmouth at undergroundpress.org. Info shared may be published in our zine and on our website.
Deadline for all submitted info is Christmas Eve. Thanks for helping us make Zine World a kick-ass resource for zinesters!

C U @ Portland?

Jerianne and mishap will be at the Portland Zine Symposium this Saturday. If you’re going, too, drop by and say hi.
We had hoped to debut the new issue of Zine World (#26) at the Symposium, but sadly we didn’t quite get it ready in time. We’re hoping to have it ready to release around Sept. 1. We will be pre-selling the new issue at the Symposium; we’ll have a preview copy of the nearly finished zine you can take a gander at. Pay for it in Portland, and we’ll mail you a copy just as soon as it’s published.
Jerianne will be presenting a workshop on Sunday called the Zinesters Guide to U.S. Mail, which will cover the options zine publishers can use for mailing zines within the U.S., along with other helpful advice about working with the postal service.
Stay tuned for more details about the new issue!

need info (and help!) for new issue
Filed Under ZW announcements | 4 Comments
We’re working on a new issue, to be released later this summer. Zine World wants to be a great resource for all zine publishers and readers; we need your help to make that happen. The information you give us will be shared with all of Zine World’s readers, plus with visitors to our website.
Please send us:
- Updates for our zine library / infoshop list. The next issue will include our full list (U.S. and international). Email info on new locations, closed locations, or changes to jerianne@undergroundpress.org. Please include as much contact info as possible and a brief description about your collection / services.
- Listings and recommendations for our stores & distros list. Share your recommendations on what distros or stores have done you right, either as a publisher or as a purchaser. Or tell us what places to stay away from — which ones are unreliable, don’t pay promptly, etc. Or, if you have a distro or a store that sells zines and you want to be on our list, email us with your distro’s name, website, mailing address, and a one-sentence description.
- Updates for our zine review zines list (including websites). Tell us about new review sources or ones that have stopped publishing. Please include contact information.
- Event listings, for events happening August 2008 or later. Or, if you’ve recently attended a zine event, we’d love to hear your report about how it went. (Event organizers — we’d love to hear from you, too! Share your knowledge and experience about planning, organizing, or hosting an event.)
- Other zine resources or advice — experiences with print shops; advice on or experiences with postage & mailing; deadbeat zines; advice on diy printing or equipment; online resources; or anything else you think other zinesters would want to know.
- Moved? Share youre zine’s new mailing address.
Send info or comments on any of the above to wordofmouth@undergroundpress.org.
We also take advertising! You can submit a free classified ad (up to 50 words) for your zine, distro, diy project or group, as well as for calls-for-submissions, personals, or whatever else. Please be sure to include contact information — that means a mailing address, unless you’re just hawking a website. Display ads are super affordable, starting at just $15. Buying an ad helps us pay for printing the zine, so we can keep the cover price affordable. Email jerianne@undergroundpress.org for ad rates or to submit your classified.
And: Zine World wants to put you to work! Help us get the next issue out, and we’ll give you free zines and whatnot. Volunteers are needed for:
- ad rep - We need someone to coordinate advertising for ZW, including answering advertising queries and seeking new advertisers.
- distribution / order fulfillment - We need someone to take over distribution of ZW to stores; it would be great to have someone help out with filling orders.
- art coordinator - We need someone to keep up with the art submissions and to stay in contact with artists to line up artwork for each issue.
- writers & artists - We need someone to make a cover for the next issue, as well as interior art submission. We’re also looking for a column for the next issue. Email with your ideas.
- general grunt work - typing, checking addresses, online research, etc.
A lot of work goes into each issue of Zine World. The more volunteers we have, the quicker it will get done, and the quicker we can release a new issue. Email jerianne@undergroundpress.org for more details.

We hope you like the new look of the Zine World website. We’ll be using this new blog to keep you informed of important stuff in between issues of our zine: news about censorship, publishing, the post office, etc.; announcements about various zine-related things and resources; and much more. If you use an RSS reader, please be sure to add our feed!
Of course, you can still find great zine resources on our website, including our lists of zine libraries & infoshops (U.S. and worldwide), zine review zines and websites, zine distros and stores that sell zines (with recommendations from our readers), links to zine websites and other great sources of information, and upcoming zine events.
If you have news you’d like us to share with the zine community — on our website and in our zine — please email it to wordofmouth@undergroundpress.org. We are always looking for: event listings, recommendations (and warnings) about zine vendors, publishing advice, mailing/shipping tips, and information about places to find zines.
