Send Us Your Zine
It’s easy to have your work reviewed in Zine World. We’ll review any zine, newsletter, book, comic, or video we receive, as long as it’s made by people, not by a company or corporation. We’ll also consider reviewing other material in any media, so long as it’s DIY, counterculture, or somehow an alternative to mainstream merchandise.
We probably won’t review something that’s made by a company, corporation, or college; anything that’s easily available through mainstream commercial channels; or anything where the primary purpose seems to be making a buck. We believe in independent literature, so our general rule of thumb is - if you did it yourself we’re interested, but if someone paid you to do it we’re not. We also do not review music.
To submit your zine, comic, newsletter, book, video, or whatever, simply send it to us (see notes on book reviews below). Don’t forget to attach a note with your name, an ordering address, and the asking price — or just print out this form, fill it out, and attach it to your material. We won’t review zines that do not include a mailing address for orders.
It’s not cheating to ask a particular Zine World staff writer to read and review your work, if you think he or she would be most attuned to what you’re doing. Just let us know which of our reviewers you’d choose. Two slight restrictions to this pick-your-own-reviewer policy:
- You have to name names (saying "Give my zine to someone who likes bisexual senior citizen ska zines" isn’t good enough).
- We won’t let the same reviewer write consecutive reviews of the same zine.
If you’d like two of our reviewers to ‘Siskel & Ebert’ your zine, just send two copies.
NOTE: Because our emphasis is on zines, we will only review books that fit one or more of the following criteria:
- The book is written by (or contains contributions from) a zine/comic publisher or someone active in the zine community.
- The book is about zines, independent media, or publishing.
- The book is about issues or topics of interest to our readers: censorship, public policy, music, film, anti-corporate culture, activism, politics, etc.
We will not review books by people we’ve never heard of (unless they meet one of the above criteria), or that are published by vanity presses; we will rarely review fiction or poetry books (again, unless they meet one of the above criteria.)
We try our dangedest to review absolutely all the underground material we receive, but sometimes a volunteer flakes out on us, zines get lost in the mail or lost in the mess, etc. If you’ve sent us something and we haven’t reviewed it within 3-4 months, ask us why.
